Therapy Agreement & Professional Standards
At The Muslim Counsellor, we are committed to offering a safe, ethical, and client-centered therapeutic space. The initial session is a full consultation (charged at the standard session rate) and provides an opportunity for both the client and therapist to assess whether working together is appropriate. During this session, we will explore your reasons for seeking therapy, outline expectations, and agree on a mutually suitable approach.
Each counselling session lasts approximately 55 minutes. The number and frequency of sessions will be tailored to your needs and reviewed regularly. You are free to end therapy at any time, although where possible, we encourage a planned ending process.
Therapy is a collaborative journey that may bring up challenging emotions. It is not a crisis service, nor does it guarantee immediate results. However, it can support meaningful personal insight, emotional healing, and growth over time.
This service operates in line with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework, UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) guidelines, and the values of Islamic Counselling. As part of professional practice, the therapist engages in regular supervision, where general cases may be discussed without sharing personally identifiable information. This ensures the highest standards of care and confidentiality.
In cases where therapy is no longer beneficial or falls outside the scope of support offered, the therapist reserves the right to discontinue sessions and, if appropriate, offer a referral to another professional or service. The Muslim Counsellor also reserves the right to decline counselling requests where it is deemed unsuitable or where a conflict of interest may exist. Any payments made in advance for unused sessions will be refunded in such circumstances.
